Welcome to, a subreddit dedicated to build the fighting game community, harbor a healthy competitive nature, and be welcoming to players and fans alike. Just as the title suggests, im torn between the 2. Now im a Uni student so i cannot buy both of them due to money sortages etc. My Fighting game backround is Mortal Kombat X in which i played in local tourneys ( my highest place was 2nd ) and online vs the top player of my country multiple times and won some of those matches vs him, so the general basics and terminology are well known to me ( plus on hit, footsies etc. Sure those are different in T7 and SFV but u get what i mean ). Now what peaked my interest is the inclusion of Armor King in Tekken and Kage in Street Fighter. I realise however that i might get biased answers due to the place where i post this.
Still i think this, and the tekken 7 reddit are the best places i can get good answers. Any suggestion, any info, any general analysis, whatever you end up contributing is obviously greatly appreciated. Thx in advance for taking the time to read this. If you wanna actually improve or learn fighting games smoothly (outside of Netherrealms fighting games), then Street Fighter V is your best bet. It's the most easy to learn Street Fighter to date.

Learning curve isn't as steep as other fighting games.Buuut Tekken 7 is still a nice casual experience with its customization and single player modes. And the gameplay is great, but 3D fighters are still a completely different animal than 2D, so prepare for a steep learning curve. It really just comes down to how much patience you think you'll have.
I consider myself a street fighter player and play very little Tekken because it doesn't speak to me. That said,SFV is much easier to learn, but Tekken 7 is a far better game in pretty much every way except that Capcom has much better tournament support for SFV than Namco does for T7.My suggestion would be to find a way to spend a few hours with both games and to decide for yourself.
You can also find base SFV (without any of the DLC. Be warned, there's a lot of it) very cheap these days whether it's on Steam, G2A, or used from Gamestop.
Steam also has a return policy if you don't like a game and Gamestop has a 7 day return policy on used games. Tekken 7 has a much larger starting roster and you get by far more than you pay for. You dont have to pay for costumes etc and there is character customization thats free with unlockables BUT T7 is 3D and you come from MKX which is 2D. Now the content you get from SFV is significantly less than that of T7 when it comes to costumes etc (almost all of them paid with real money) and the more expensive the edition you get, the more characters you get. SFV tho has way more fun characters imo and it looks much better than T7. Its very vibrant and colorful and fun and its 2D which i prefer.
I know both games require a lot of practice but tekken 7 really requires A LOT of practice to be played properly. Just because you cant afford both of them and you want your money well spent, Tekken 7 is the superior choice imo. It's a really great fighting game and its the perfect time to get into it.

As Street Fighter X Tekken was made by the Capcom, with Namco being involved more in licensing of the Tekken cast, the gameplay is based on 2D gameplay of Street Fighter, with projectile moves such as Hadouken, as opposed to the Tekken series. Namco is currently producing their own take on crossover, Tekken X Street Fighter, which will follow their 3D style of the gameplay. Unique features in the Street Fighter X Tekken include the Gem System, which allows players to equip special gems to power-up numerous character attributes and Pandora Mode, in which a character’s strength & abilities are temporarily augmented.GameplayBeing developed by the Capcom, the core gameplay is similar to that of Street Fighter series, incorporating elements such as Super Combos & EX Attacks. The Players each choose 2 fighters from the Street Fighter & Tekken series.
Both sets of characters are controlled using Street Fighter 6-button system, but the Tekken characters are able to perform the Tekken style combos using the primary 4 buttons in a similar fashion to the Tekken 4-button system. These fighters can be switched out normally, or through certain combos. As fights go on, the players build up power in a 3-sectioned meter at the bottom of the screen referred to as Cross Gauge, which allow the player to perform different techniques depending on how much of gauge is filled, such as EX Attacks, Cancels, Super Arts and a variety of Cross techniques detailed below.Additionally, each fighter possesses 1 special attack that can be charged into an EX Attack / Super Art without any cost to the Cross Gauge.
